The Leopard or Leopard 1 is a main battle tank (Panzer) designed and produced in West Germany that first entered service in 1965.
120 Leopard 1A3 Panzer was delivered to the Danish defense in 1976, In 1991, these Panzer supplemented with 110 used German Leopard 1A3. All 230 Leopard 1A3 was upgraded to Leopard 1A5 standard in 1993. The main purpose of this upgrade program was to give the tanks ability to fight at night. They were therefore equipped with new fire control and thermal sight. Some years later, 36 Leopard 1A5 upgraded to Leopard 1A5 DK1 that was used on missions in the Balkans. This upgrade added with a generator and an air conditioning system, which is mounted on the back of the tower. Denmark had a total of 230 Leopard 1A5-DKs. Leopard 1 is phased out in Defence Agreement 2005-2009. But Denmark still has a few standing on depot.
